Five words: Boomers (their target market) don’t buy manual Corvettes.
How do I know? I smog a lot of Corvettes and the take rate for the manual is incredibly low.

I couldn’t care less about manuals, so I’m actually happy about it.

God, I wish I could enjoy automatics, this would be very much my shit. However my takeaway every time (including the high holy Porsche PDK), is “man this is great, but would be more entertaining with a manual”
It’s a mental block I’m not going to overcome.

Manuals are massively overrated.
I drove manuals only until around 2014. I don’t have any desire to go back. These are fun to me.
That and my left foot works intermittently.

I don’t know, I think here they are targeting a notably younger demographic. I’ve been seeing a LOT of excitement on the facebook from youths.

Every car should be offered in that color, bottom line

Except the Youths can’t afford to buy a two seater car that starts at $60,000. There target market will always be people in there 50's as they can actually afford the damn thing.

I fall asleep driving autos
No, I’m not using that as a cheeky way of saying I think they are boring.
Driving them calmy for any extended length of time makes me drowzy, I need some manner of engagement. I’m fairly certain that is one of the reasons I’ve found myself so drawn to motorcycles.

Bro, bitcoin is gonna come back, just wait and see.
But for real, I’m talking people in their 30s who h aven’ t started a family yet, this is very much in the realm of possibility for that demographic

Will it not be offered with a manual?
![]() 07/19/2019 at 12:58 |

Nope. Look at that center console and some of the mechanical cutaways. The packaging of the drive train means that a manual is not feasible for this generation.

Aw man that is a mega bummer. I never gave it a second thought. “It’s a Corvette, they’ll offer a manual.”
I’m totally out on automatics after my S3. The DSG is the neatest automatic that I have driven besides PDK (and probably some super expensive cars). I still grew tired of it.

Bullshit. They’re all saddled with huge student debt. Sure, there may be a few bros on Wall Street who get one, but that’s always been the case.
Economic inequality has only gotten worse in this country. College graduates are more fucked than ever and Boomers are raking in all the dough and paying no student debts or mortgages thanks to the fucking GI Bill.

Right?? I had the same thought “no way it doesn’t come in manual”
Yeah, I just can’t do it. And I am someone that probably would have preordered if it came in manual, it checks every other checkbox on my “I wish someone would make this” list.

I call this “Boomer Green”. Not a fan. I’m not a fan of nearly any of the available colors, really.

Didn’t they have a Bowling Green back in the day? sounds like a joke but it was a cool dark green, I know I’ve seen some but maybe I imagined the color name.
I’d Google it but I don’t want to type the C-word, it’s probably been searched so many times today I’ll break the interwebs.

Believe me, there are many 20 and 30 something professionals buying cars in the 60k range. Sure they may have debt, but they’ve also got healthy 6 figure incomes. S oftware, finance, entrepreneurship? Hell, an assistant manager position at a local fast food joint offers $68k plus bonuses, and that’s a year or tw o of experience away from being entry-level.
Which is to say I definitely expect this to appeal to a younger crowd

And that super-sexy “Black Rose Metallic” that they offered for a year or two.

Ugh please. A Black Rose on Brownstone ZR1 would be outstanding.

I genuinely almost ordered a Grand Sport in Black Rose
, but the GT350 won out for me.

I’m one of the biggest manual advocates out there, refuse to daily anything but, find autos super snooze inducing , love the freedom to rev match downshifts etc. That said when I heard the C8 was auto only I was not only not surprised, but perhaps not that bothered either. Why?
Short answer: I’ll probably never own one either way . Longer answer: I like small, cheap, thrashy cars with easily approachable limits and the ability to get sideways without having to first disable things . The C8 has some seriously intense performance parameters, but I’d be willing to bet still has numb-ish electric steering feel and lots of electronic nannies built in. I’m sure a manual would make it more fun, but would it be enough to transform it into the analog-feeling budget freedom machine of my dreams? I doubt it. For what the car is, and who it’s for, it’s probably fine.
I’m more interested in what is going to happen to the crate motor industry now that Ca maros are dead and the Corvette is an auto-only rear engine platform.

I don’t know, I get it, but (aside from my lolzy miata) I get all my sketchy thrashy thrills from motorbikes now. I’ve been finding myself more drawn to GT oriented machines for a bit. The Corvette does on paper, what I’ve been asking any manufacturer to do for a long time.
I’d have to drive one to know.
I
t could be the same case I ran in to with liter bikes, where my personality doesn’t let me be satisfied
putting
along at
1/10th of a machines ability. I know I still wring the neck of whatever I can, which I wouldn’t be able to do in a vette on public roads.

If you put the two together you’d have a Barney vette
